Servers & Homelabs

Build your lab.
Explore what’s possible.

A Linux server, shared storage, or a place to run virtual machines. Start with a purpose and shape a setup around your space, budget, and learning or small-office needs.

What We Help With

A purposeful system, one step at a time.

Build a setup that you can understand and use. The plan starts with the services, files, or learning goals you want it to support.

Linux server setup

Plan and configure a server around an agreed set of uses.

  • Operating-system installation and initial setup
  • User access and service configuration
  • Practical documentation and handoff

NAS & shared storage

A network-attached storage system makes files available to devices on your network.

  • Storage and access-needs planning
  • Shared folders and permissions
  • Separate backup and restore planning

Virtual machines & homelabs

Run separate virtual computers on a physical host for learning, development, or testing.

  • Resource planning for your intended VMs
  • Virtual-machine and virtual-network setup
  • A lab layout matched to your goals

A Practical Plan

Plan the foundation before adding complexity.

A learning lab and a business-critical system have different demands. We discuss intended use, storage, backups, and ongoing responsibilities before agreeing on the project.

How It Works

A clear next step from the start.

  1. 1

    Define the purpose

Describe the services, VMs, files, or skills you want the setup to support.

  2. 2

    Review the design

Discuss hardware reuse, resources, network needs, software, and the quoted scope.

  3. 3

    Configure & verify

Complete the agreed setup and check the intended access and workloads.

  4. 4

    Document & hand off

Review the layout, accounts, backup approach, and ongoing maintenance needs.

Common Questions

Before we get started.

Can I start with an existing computer?

Possibly. The model, condition, storage, memory, and intended workloads determine whether reuse is practical. Share what you already have before buying anything.

What is a virtual machine?

It is a software-defined computer running on a physical host. Each VM can run its own operating system while using part of the host’s processor, memory, and storage.

Is a NAS the same as a backup?

A NAS provides storage on the network. Files stored there still need an agreed backup approach. Shared storage and backup planning are discussed as separate parts of the project.

Does setup include ongoing management?

Ongoing support, monitoring, updates, and response times need a separately agreed scope. They are not automatically included with an installation.

What if I need a new server built?

Custom hardware can be planned around the workloads. The Custom Computers page explains component planning, assembly, and the build process.

What do you want your lab or server to do?

Send your goals, existing hardware, location, and a rough budget or resource plan.
